![]() ![]() Anyone that wanted to try would have to gain access to their target's computer, apply a patch to the client that changes the tooltip code without breaking blizzard's authentication methods, find the person in game, and then get them to trade. It would take an extremely skilled hacker to go from making fake tooltips show up in chat to making fake tooltips show up in place of the real one. All this is doing is telling the game "Show everyone in this channel an item TOOLTIP with these stats that i'm telling you right now." When you mouse over it in your inventory, or a trade window, you're telling the game "Show me an item tooltip using this item's stats as parameters." ![]() The tooltip is generated from the parameters passed to it when you mouse over the item or link it in chat. There's no way a scammer could exploit this because the actual item is stored on the server. There's not really any problem at all here, WoW has used this exact same system since release.
